I see a lot of objections to “invisible fence”. Why?

Question by ELIZABETH C: I see a lot of objections to “invisible fence”. Why?
I tried it. I held the collar tight in my hand and walked to the fence. While surprising, it was not painful. None of my dogs has been dumb enough to get zapped more than once.
To Kashi: I had that experience myself last week. A big German Shepard scared the life out of me before I realized he must be fenced.
To others: I guess I’m lucky, my neighbors don’t let their dogs roam. I also don’t consider the fence a substitute for my walking the dog – I go out with them most of the time. I live in a very Rural area with lots of wild life (bear, coyote, fox, dear, turkey), my dogs are 45 and 65 pounds, not fierce at all – we have no problems with the wild critters.
To Sarah: Absolutely!!
To Lioness: Thank you! I agree.
I’ll add that it is no substitute for the walk either. My two dogs and I love to walk the neighborhood just to be together and visit freinds. Dogs learn how to “follow the leader” by walking on the lead, inside as well as out.

Yes it keeps your dogs in because they are wearing the collar, but it does not keep other dogs out, therefore you may think your dog is safe when you run inside to answer the phone only to come out to 4 dogs killing him that strayed into your yard. A proper fence needs to keep your dogs in and others out
