Question by Beckie: My pit protected me, now animal control is trying to put her down! what do I do?
This is more of a rant than a question — but i’m looking for advice as to what to do next. My dog does NOT deserve to be put down.. Heres what happened:
Every morning I run about 2 miles with my dog to the dog park where I let her run (off leash) and rest. Today, there was only 1 person there. A little pudgey old lady and her 2 white fluffball dogs. Long story short (cuz it really IS a long story), I tried to enter the gate after unleashing Chloe (my dog.. did I mention she is a pitbull?) and this woman came over and slapped the gate shut on my finger (later i found out she had brokn it in 2 places). We exchanged words (most of which couldn’t be repeated here). After about 10 minutes of argueing with this woman, who didn’t want to let me in because my dog “was a monster and dangerous to her “show dogs” I gave up and sat down on a bench about 100ft from the park.
The park is fenced in, surrounded by several acres of field. There is no traffic and only a dirt road.
When the woman saw me with my dog unleashed outside the park, she walked right over and started waving her fists in my face (this woman wasn’t more than 5 inches away from my face) calling me irresponsible and THAN she goes “You better hope nobody throws poison over your fence” WTF?!
Push comes to shove (I did NOTHING but call her a fat cow. i didn’t touch her, i didn’t threaten her) and she pushes me down and KICKED me! My dog saw, came over and bit down on her pant leg and growled. She just gave the lady a good scare. She leg was fine, no bite marks, not even a tear in her pants.
Anyways, she calls animal control. I explained to the man that this woman assaulted me, showed him my finger and he gave me a ride to the hospital. He told me that he still had to file a report and there was a good chance my dog would get put down. My city allows pitbulls, but had a very low tolerance for them. He even told me I should make my dog “disapear” for a few months!
Is there anything I can do to show them she was protecting me? I have hospital records proving I had injuries to my back and finger.. but the woman is claiming my dog attacked me first and thats why she held the gate shut.. to protect herself.
There is no security cams at the park.. what can I do?
ps. My dog has been thru 4 seperate training classes: Puppy education, socialization, obediance and Advanced Training. I have proof of this in paperwork and pictures. My dog can do over 15 tricks! She can walk on her hind feet and jump thru hoops for gods sake, how can they NOT think she’s trained?
