Some breeds of dogs are natural guard dogs, such as German Sheppards, Rottweilers, Dobermans and even some terrier breeds, such as pit bulls. At time it is just the presence of these particular breeds of dogs that is deterrent enough to prevent criminal action.
Dogs are tireless workers and require little reward for the great job that they do and do well and guard dogs do take their job seriously. We as humans should be such tireless workers.
Some people purchase fully trained guard dogs while others train them on their own, either way both are usually effective and some will argue that one is better than the other.
